Gran Turismo Sport may not have been the kind of new mainline GT instalment that series fans had been hoping for when it first launched, but thanks to plenty of content updates and consistent and prolonged post-launch support, it has, over time, turned into a legitimately great racing sim in its own right, with plenty to offer for different kinds of players. As such, the game has also enjoyed its fair share of success to reflect that quality.
Speaking recently in an interview with the Japanese regional version of Octane magazine (via GT Planet), Polyphony Digital boss and series producer Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Gran Turismo Sport has garnered total of over 9.5 million players to date. At last count, that number stood at 8.2 million in February 2020, so the game’s definitely enjoyed sustained and impressive growth.
Gran Turismo Sport is available exclusively on PS4. The next mainline instalment in the series, Gran Turismo 7, is due out exclusively for the PS5 some time this year. Yamauchi has previously said that unlike GT Sport, it’s going to be much more traditional instalment that will take cues from earlier games in the series. Read more on that through here.
