Grand Theft Auto 5 On Xbox One Is Not Even In Top 50 In Japan

Not entirely surprising.

It’s no secret at all that the Japanese gaming market has a markedly different interest in subject matter, game type and overall game design when compared to other major consumers of digital entertainment. No better example of this has come recently than the fact that Grand Theft Auto V, a disgustingly successful game, didn’t even break the Top 50 in Japan on Xbox One.

The Media Create’s top 50 games list shows that there’s still a considerable market imbalance that Microsoft is yet to overcome, or even close to overcoming. Out of 50 games, not a single one of them landed on a Microsoft platform with the obvious winners being pulled from Sony and Nintendo’s ever present success.

Now don’t take this out of context, the game was still fairly successful when it made it’s debut on the PS3, selling 360,115 copies in its first week. It even saw comparable success on the considerably less popular Xbox 360 where it sold over 26,000 copies.
