Grand Theft Auto 5 PC Sells 1.1 Million Copies on Steam at Launch

Rockstar's open world opus is already off to a strong start on PC.

Despite the various issues that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 has faced on PC, it’s still apparently managed to sell more than 1.1 million copies at launch. And this is only on Steam, according to the latest information from Steam Spy on Twitter. Yesterday we reported how the game managed to sold over a million and that number only seems to be rising now.

“Update on #GTAV Steam owners: 1,146,914 ± 59,680. It doesn’t include non-Steam copies. More data should be available tomorrow morning.”

The very fact that it doesn’t include retail copies is astonishing. While Grand Theft Auto has always been a success on consoles, the PC versions have faced their fair amount of scepticism in the past, especially due to a shabby port of Grand Theft Auto IV. Rockstar went all out with Grand Theft Auto 5 and even with its various problems, it’s already made a strong impression on players.
