GTA 5 To Be Priced Absurdly High In South Africa, San Andreas PSN Cost Explained

High prices.

GTA 5 pre-order prices everywhere are consistent at $60 even in developing markets like India, the prices haven’t changed at all, and is available for Rs. 2799.

When you take into account markets like South Africa, sometimes you have to realize how privileged you are for getting games for significantly cheaper. Lazygamer reports that the game will be costing $89 in the country, and they have inquired a bunch of stores there who all said the same thing.

Now distributors usually ship out a game to the retailers and also fix the prices in countries like that, so here’s what their distributor Megarom had to say about this. The game is scheudled to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring next year.

“Rockstar have provided gamers with top pedigree of gaming franchises, the pricing reflects a tremendous amount of effort, quality and value that consumers will receive on their final purchase of the product,” Megarom’s Devon Stanton told Lazygamer in an official statement.

“Exchange rates also have a major influence on our pricing structures, should the current exchange rate favour us closer to release, it may then be possible to bring the pricing down.”

When you compare this with the prices in UK where it falls down within 15 days, people really have it nice sometimes.

In other news, if you are aghast at the absurd GTA: San Andreas price on PSN, which costs $15, $5 more than what you normally expect from digital PS2 releases, here’s what Sony had to say about it.

“Hey guys, we hear the feedback on the pricing and would like to point out that the price point on PlayStation Store is consistent with digital versions of San Andreas everywhere. We hope those of you who pick it up enjoy heading back to Grove Street.”

I guess some brands do command a premium, but why wouldn’t they? Gamers would buy it anyway. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
