Half-Life: Alyx Is “Our Return to This World, Not the End of It” – Valve

There's a very good chance that the VR title will be followed by more games in the series.

It’s been a long wait, but the return of Half-Life is almost upon us, and Valve have been clear about the fact that the upcoming VR-exclusive Half-Life: Alyx is the next big series instalment we’ve all been waiting for. Not only does it have about as much content as Half-Life 2 did, it’s also supposedly a crucial part of the series’ larger story. So does that indicate that Valve are finally ready to start investing in the series once again on a long-term basis? According to Half-Life: Alyx programmer Robin Walker, that’s exactly what that means.

Speaking in an interview with Game Informer, when asked if Valve will be working on Half-Life 3 after Alyx, Walker said that the VR shooter represents the company’s return to the franchise, not the end of their association with it, which is something that they’ve suggested earlier as well.

Half-Life means a lot to us, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to refamiliarize ourselves with its characters, setting, and mechanics,” Walker said. “There are Half-Life: Alyx team members who have been at Valve since Half-Life 2, and quite a few who go back to the original Half-Life. There are also people on the team for whom Half-Life: Alyx is their first time working on this series at all – and many of them certainly hope it’s not the last. We absolutely see Half-Life: Alyx as our return to this world, not the end of it.”

You know what that means. Half-Life 3 confirmed.

Half-Life: Alyx is due out for PC on March 23, and will be compatible with various VR headsets, including Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality. Valve recently released plenty of new gameplay footage- check it out through here.
