Valve Software recently hosted an AMA for Half-Life: Alyx, it’s upcoming VR-exclusive title and first full game in the series since Half-Life 2. We’ve heard quite bit about the game’s content and the size of the development team. But how well is development going exactly? Is there a chance of a delay or three?
Given that so many games have been delayed in the past several days (like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Avengers, Dying Light 2, Marvel’s Iron Man VR), it wouldn’t be that strange. However, Valve revealed that outside of tweaking the very last scene, “the game is done.” “Lots of us at Valve, as well as playtesters, have played through the entire game multiple times.”
Currently, the studio is focused on “polishing and fixing bugs, which is where we’d hope to be at this point in the development cycle. We’re confident we’ll hit our intended release. We let the Valve Time happen before we announced the game.” So there’s no need to worry, except about how well Valve makes the leap to VR.
Half-Life: Alyx is out in March 2020 and will be free to owners of the Valve Index. Good luck finding one – the device has been sold out in about 31 countries. Stay tuned for more details and updates on the VR title en route to release.
