Halo 4: We owe it to the fans to make it “play like a Halo game” – 343 Industries

After all, its all for the fans.

Halo fans are sometimes very intolerant to the changes, and we noticed this with Reach, where there was a certain amount of dissatisfaction considering how the addition of new modes and abilities sort of deviated from the ‘Grenade, Melee, Shield’ philosophy of the previous Halo games.

However, plenty of fans like it too and the game sold pretty well, which is great considering it wasn’t a mainline Halo game. Halo 4 is, and the main objective of 343 is to make it play like a Halo game, so it’s something they owe it to their fans.

In our yet to be published mammoth interview, we asked lead designer of Spartan Ops, Chris Haluke, about this.

“Absolutely. We needed to play like a Halo game,” he said. “We owe that to the fans. But we also do want to innovate. We want to drive the franchise forward. And we can do so by adding a new enemy class, by giving the players a deeper narrative thread, by giving them the episodic series in Spartan Ops, by making this game as accessible as possible.”

The game comes out on November 6 for the Xbox 360, and stay tuned for our massive interview soon.
