Halo 5: Guardians – Beta Rewards Will Be Unlocked By Watching Halo Nightfall

I hate this kinda thing.

Answer me this. How to do you market something to a completionist audience? Simple, put things behind content walls. That’s exactly what 343 Industries with the Halo 5 Beta and Halo Nightfall. Rather clever, but still not cool if you ask me.

It turns out that if you want the full Halo 5 Guardians experience you’re going to have to watch the live action Halo Nightfall series that was directed by the legendary Ridley Scott. So, the way it works is this. You buy Halo: The Master Chief Collection, that gives you access to Nightfall and the Halo 5 Beta. You then watch Halo Nightfall and when the Beta rolls around you get some goodies or something to that effect.

So what does that mean? Well we don’t really know because as per usual, it’s being kept vague behind buzz words. Speaking to Kotaku, the games executive producer Kiki Wolfkill said “We will go into more specifics a little later down the road, but we definitely want [Halo 5 beta] rewards to feel meaningful for the player. So it’s not just art [things].”

I just want to draw attention to “it’s not just art [things]”. I’m calling it now, you’re going to get special “I was in the Beta” character and weapon textures.  Why? There’s no way they will give game changing items to certain players, that’s how you enrage your community and create elitists in one foul swoop.
