Take the following as you will, it shouldn’t shock or surprise you and it certainly shouldn’t upset you, so if the title got you all worked up, quit spinning your tyres. The Halo 5 Guardians Beta, for those of you who haven’t gotten your hands on it yet, will not and does not feature four player split screen playability.
This was confirmed before the Beta dropped by Halo 5 Studio Head Josh Holmes via Twitter when he was questioned on what form of local multiplayer the game would support. His reply was, “we’ll have local split screen for 2 players in final.”
The fact that the next big thing in the Halo series will even include 2 player split screen support is a miracle in itself as the gameplay style is slowly dying out as more and more developers push for online multiplayer suites. I’m probably not going to be buying Halo 5 myself, but if I did, it would be played entirely in couch co-op, the way it was meant to be. Not over an internet connection.
