Halo 5 Guardians Dev Working on Unranked Playlists for Arena

Studio head Josh Holmes addresses lack of unranked multiplayer modes.

Annoyed that you can’t go into a casual game of Arena in Halo 5: Guardians without affecting your ranking? Desperate for some casual play but not in the mood for Warzone? 343 Industries hears you and studio head Josh Holmes says the team is working on unranked playlists for Arena.

Speaking on the Team Beyond forums, Holmes addressed concerns that the lack of unranked playlists was purely for the purpose of promoting Warzone and having players spend money on REQ packs (which can be acquired through microtransactions as well as general play).

“There was no insidious motivation behind going all ranked for Arena. That was the design intent of the team working on that experience. That said, we’ve heart the requests and we are actively working towards supporting unranked playlists for Arena in a future update.

“It may seem straightforward on the surface but lighting up unranked play in Arena is not as simple as flipping a switch. TLDR; We hear you, and we are working on it.”

343 Industries has been making good on its promise to update Halo 5: Guardians – the game recently received Big Team Battle, four new multiplayer maps and new REQ content.
