Halo 5 Guardians New Details: Master Chief’s Reflective Visor And Spartan Locke’s New Voice Actor

Halo fans seem to be getting up in arms a bit too much.

Halo 5: Guardians is just a few weeks from hitting store shelves and 343 is wrapping up a few small details, crossing their T’s and dotting their I’s as it were. One of the T’s the firm has recently cross is replacing the voice actor for Spartan Locke, a character in the game that is said to be contextualizing the universe in a way Cortana never could. Mike Colter was the original voice for Locke but he moved on after he was offered the starring role in the upcoming Luke Cage series. In his place, 343 brought in Ike Amadi.

Amadi’s addition has had some fans of the game complaining he’s not as good as his predecessor. Halo Franchise Development Director Frank O’Connor responded on NeoGaf to those criticism by dismissing them because they were being made based on “one line over radio static?” He added, “Ike Amadi has an amazing voice and you’re wrong scientifically. Listen to some other examples.” He also explained the firm had to let Colter go because he was being given a once in lifetime opportunity.

O’Connor also addressed some recent rumblings that 343 was changing canon by having Master Chief’s visor light up when he regained consciousness in the latest trailer. O’Connor says this is actually not anywhere near a big a deal as some are making it out to be. In fact, the effect where his visor appears to light up is actually just going through different lighting, from shadows to light. He said the visor is reflective and nothing more. Halo 5: Guardians is due out on October 27, 2015.
