If you follow video games in any capacity, then you know just how much Final Fantasy XV’s car became a meme throughout the internet after the last trailer for it debuted. And yet, in spite of this, it won’t be driveable in the upcoming demo for the game that ships with Final Fantasy Type 0 HD. Director Hajime Tabata explained this in an interview, specifying just why the car, in spite of being so iconic, remains unplayable in the demo.
“Originally we were planning on making the car be available to drive throughout the world and throughout the demo,” Tabata told Polygon. “But we didn’t want people to mistake it and think ‘When did Final Fantasy become a driving game?'”
“You’ll be able to experience the starting point of what an open-world Final Fantasy would potentially feel like,” Tabata said. “You’ll really be able to experience that seamless Final Fantasy world within the demo itself, but then if you play it, you’ll still really get a sense that it’s a Final Fantasy game. You’ll get that balance within the demo.”
Alright, I mean, sounds good enough. It’s a bit of a lame reason, but not wanting to confuse players is fine, as long as it isn’t a design sensibility that pervades the entire game (that sort of mindset gives us disasters like Skyward Sword).
It sounds like they are doing everything right with Final Fantasy XV. Now they just need to release it and give it to me already.
