Hideo Kojima has finally left Konami as his contract has now ended, Japanese financial news source Nikkei (via LifeLower) is reporting. He is expected to form a new games studio to continue pursuing game development, with PlayStation being explicitly named as a target platform for whatever his new game turns out to be.
A new PS4 game from Kojima makes sense- he has always favored powerful, specialized hardware of the kind that PlayStation usually is, and he has had a long, working relationship with Sony, with Metal Gear Solid usually being exclusive to PlayStation hardware, at least for a while.
What kinds of games Kojima makes with a new studio – whether or not it is a PS4 game notwithstanding – is something that I am most excited about. It is no secret that Kojima has wanted to move away from developing further Metal Gear games for a while now, but has been repeatedly forced into by Konami. Unfettered by any such obligations, I can’t wait to see what a creatively unshackled Kojima will create.
As usual take this report with a grain if salt since this is not an official confirmation but Nikkei is a credible source. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more news and information.
