Insomniac Games comments on the identity crisis of Resistance

The Resistance franchise has one of the most divisive fanbases that we’ve ever seen in gaming before. It must be tough facing all the criticisms due to a less than stellar sequel according to its predecessor’s fans.

Insomniac, however, hasn’t given up and has plenty of things in store for people who play Resistance 3. For starters, they can choose their playing style as the game design allows the players to do that.

“For Resistance 3, we’re trying to give people a game that they can play how they want. You can use cover or run-and-gun, and we wanted to make sure there were penalties for that.” says Marcus Smith, Creative Director at Insomniac Games in an interview with GamingUnion.

He also went on to explain the benefits of going back to the roots and providing players a complete old-school shooting experience. He emphasizes on the fact that they have removed the regenerating health and want to give the players more challenge.

“We’re going back to the roots of first-person shooters, where it’s more pickup-based and when you have low health, you have to play very differently,” he says.

Having to scrap most of the things they worked on in Resistance 2 must be tough, but Smith says, he isn’t bothered because sequels are usually hit or a miss. This results in an identity crisis, but he’s confident that they’ll be able to rectify it with Resistance 3.
