Insomniac Has Pushed Out VRR Patches for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man

Insomniac Games explains that all of its games already have the required patches to support VRR features on day one.

At long last, Sony has finally confirmed that a hardware update for the PS5 will soon enable support for variable refresh rate gaming (VRR). While the update isn’t out as of now, Insomniac Games has said that all of its games already have been brought up to speed to support the technology.

On an official support page of the studio, Insomniac explains that the main purpose of VRR support in their games is to slightly increase the dynamic image resolution targets, since minor frame-drops will be eased out.

“Because our titles are already built to have very stable framerates, the main effect of the VRR system setting will be to slightly increase dynamic image resolution targets,” the developer writes.

Those who use VRR in conjunction with a 120 Hz display will have access to an uncapped framerate option that, well, unlocks the framerate. According to the developer, this can result in framerates up to 50% higher than the capped limits.

“If your TV also supports 120Hz high framerate input and the 120Hz Display Mode option is active along with VRR, you will get a variable, uncapped framerate that can exceed your chosen Graphics Mode’s 30fps or 60fps target by 50 percent or more (depending on gameplay).”

These updates have been applied to all three Insomniac games on the PS5- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
