Is The Xbox One Following Microsoft’s Map To Success?

CEO Satya Nadella's vision seems to be playing out, we'll have to see if Microsoft can deliver.

It’s not wrong to wonder just what Microsoft has in store for the Xbox One starting today and moving forward. The company just saw its console lose out in sales numbers to the PS4 yet again and now the firm says it isn’t going to be paying strict attention to shipment numbers at all, instead looking at engagement numbers as the primary focus.

While some might wonder if there was a direction at all, it turns out the company might be moving exactly in the direction CEO Satya Nadella has wanted to go all along. As Business Insider points out, one of the CEO’s most favorite mantras since taking over has been “mobile first, cloud first.” That didn’t seem to apply a great deal to the Xbox One when he first said it, but things are changing rapidly.

The Xbox One is getting a revamp on its dashboard sometime this fall that will have a version of Windows 10 front and center. This, in theory means better integration not only to the PC but also on Microsoft Windows Phone. There are already some games that are apparently going to be cross platform when talking about the PC and the Xbox One thanks to using the cloud. It makes sense that movement would only continue. Whether or not that means big time success for Microsoft in the near future remains to be seen, but at least it appears the gaming division is coming in line with the CEO’s vision for what he views as a successful road map.
