Yesterday, Sony made the 3D wars official when they somehow implied that Nintendo was pitting the 3DS against Sony’s push for 3D gaming against the PS3 (yeah, a handheld competing against a console. Go figure). Today, it appears as if they are poised to lose the war.
While public interest and awareness of 3D TV’s has been dismally low so far, one would have thought that the case would be different in Japan, where the people lap up all the new tech before it’s even available in the market. Apparently not.
As a survey by Kakaku.com reveals, 67.4 percent people have no interest in purchasing a 3D TV. However, 31.2 percent stated they were looking into the new tech.
The survey goes on to note that this could hurt the prospects of 3D gaming on the PS3.
70 percent of respondents cited the glasses as an issue, 57 percent said the price was a deterrent and nearly 40 percent said the lack of content was factors for this decision.
Apparently, Nintendo and the 3DS sidestep all three os these issues. The 3DS features stereoscopic 3D with no glasses, is definitely not going to exceed the cost of $250, no matter what, and seems to have a crap load of games lined up even before its launch has been finalised.
