It’s safe to say that we all knew Just Cause 3 was going to be an impressively sized game. The series has shown off its love for large expanses of land in its past two titles, both of which had massive sandbox areas for the player to wreak havoc in.
Speaking in an interview with Red Bull, the Just Cause 3 Game Director Roland Lesterlin has commented on the size of the world that players can look forward to playing in. He said, “We focused on a [game world] map of 400 square miles…we wanted to have one of the largest maps we’ve ever done to really increase the verticality.”
He goes on to say how the current methods of game development don’t necessarily call for massive maps and that they have decided to instead focus on content over scale. He said, “We wanted to keep it the same size, but this time keep it more on density.”
Lesterlin also told that they intended on having a bit more character development for Rico, saying “With Rico, we wanted to develop him a bit more as a character…we realized we needed to go back to where he was from, ask why did he become Rico? We have a bit of a genesis story.”
