Kazuo Hirai: PlayStation 4 Will Release After Xbox 720

Sony seems to be following the PS3 strategy.

The entire internet seems to be infested with next generation rumors, literally to the point of absurdity. Every day, every publication is coming up with a brand new rumor and it is creating a big cloud of confusion. Last week the internet was filled with articles indicating the PlayStation 4 is more powerful than the Xbox 720 and then another article came up which claimed the opposite. The best way to clear away from the confusion is to sit tight, be patient and let the actual guys announce it.

And that’s what happened today. Sony’s Chief Operation Office Kazuo Hirai has officially stated that they will only launch the PlayStation 4 after their competition launches one. ”Why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?,” he said to The Times (via IGN).

Not coming anytime soon.

Now he does not mention the next Xbox but come on we all know what he means when he says competition. I think it will be it will be a bad business move if they plan to to launch the PlayStation 4 after the Xbox 720, a mistake they did with the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 was launched in late 2005 while the PlayStation 3 was launched a year later.

When the PlayStation 3 was first announced at E3 2005, Sony planned to launch it by Spring 2006, but they eventually delayed it. If they plan to do the same thing with the PlayStation 4 then it could output uncertain results. However, it must be noted that Sony have their own strategy which helped them to overtake Xbox 360 sales wise.

Will the charm work the second time around? That remains to be seen.
