With Persona 5 having pulled its weight following its release in Japan last month (the game has sold over half million copies in the country already, and it shows no sign of stopping), all eyes are now on the upcoming major games in the region, to see if they will do their share of the work and revive Japan’s dedicated gaming market rom the dangerous precipice that it finds itself on currently.
Anticipation for a whole lot of upcoming games remains high- Final Fantasy 15, of course, leads the Famitsu Most Wanted charts that are updated weekly; in second place are Pokemon Sun/Moon, which made enormous gains in the last few weeks, and now find themselves perched at the top of the chart. Dragon Quest 11‘s PS4 and 3DS versions come in at numbers three and four respectively, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming in at number five, Yakuza 6 ranked sixth, Kingdom Hearts 3 ranked seventh, Monster Hunter Stories ranked eighth, Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s Wii U version coming in at the ninth rank, and Ni-oh rounding out the top 10.
Given the great sales performance of Persona 5, and the historic tendency of most of these franchises forming the Top 10 to do well, fans of the Japanese industry will undoubtedly be hoping that these games to pull in good numbers, too. Let’s hope none of them disappoints.
