Konami Severs Ties With Antoine Griezmann After Accusations Surrounding Recent Racist Comments

The Japanese publisher severs all ties with FC Barcelona player Antoine Griezmann after accusations surrounding him making racist comments.

Konami has recently announced that it will be cutting all of its ties with the FC Barcelona star player Antoine Griezman, following a number of accusations that allege him of making racial comments. As reported by VGC, Konami will be cancelling previous contract that the company made with the player for being an ambassador for its Yu-Gi-Oh! line of games.

The video in question dates back to 2 years, which shows Griezmann and teammate Ousmane Dembele making racist comments about the Asian technical staff of the hotel. Griezmann and Dembele both took to Twitter recently to apologize for any comments that may have hurt the sentiments of his Asian friends.

An official statement by Konami reads, “Konami Digital Entertainment believes, as is the philosophy of sports, that discrimination of any kind is unacceptable. We had announced Griezmann as our Yu-Gi-Oh! content ambassador, however in light of recent events we have decided to cancel the contract. With regard to our eFootball PES franchise, we will be requesting FC Barcelona, as a club partner, explain the details of this case and any future action.”

Rumors seem to indicate that Konami’s PES 2022 will be going the free-to-play route, as developments and revelations continue to happen leading up to the game’s release sometime later this year.
