Lords of the Fallen Cost CI Games Nearly $67 Million

The Souls-like is now the publisher's most expensive title, with marketing costs serving as an "investment in the entire franchise."

Hexworks’ Lords of the Fallen had a long period of development hell, but it’s since been released to strong critical praise and commercial success, with over one million units sold. As the company continues to update the Souls-like action RPG, CI Games CFO David Broderick has revealed the development costs.

Speaking during a conference call (reported by Bankier.pl), Broderick confirmed that the total cost was PLN 281 million, which amounts to roughly $66.6 million, making it the most expensive title in CI Games’ portfolio. Development costs amounted to $42.2 million, not including engine license fees (since it runs on Unreal Engine 5). It also cost $19.3 million in marketing and $5.1 million for physical copy production.

Broderick noted that marketing costs were an “investment in the entire franchise” for building a strong base and brand recognition. Whether the game’s success will lead to story DLC and expansions or a sequel remains to be seen.
