Blizzard aims to release Starcraft II in Limited Beta on Mac sometime this april.
A developer mentioned in the battle.net forum that the game was still being tweaked at this stage and asked fans to “hang in there”.
He went on to say that there were no plans to move to an open beta at any stage, although stopped just short of totally ruling out such an option. Questions were also fielded regarding balancing issues, specifically “Protoss vs Protoss” which was said to result in “stale” gameplay, as well as the Zerg suffering from a lack of diversity in their unit structure, and how terrans seem to be “losing a little too frequently in almost every match”. There are plans to resolve these and other issues in future patches; which implies the issues will still be present in release-code copies.
Overall, Blizzard are said to “have not yet achieved their goals” with how the Beta is progressing, with many units requiring tweaking in order to tackle the problem of rushes (especially by Zerg players) generally. However, they are still confident that the game (coming in three parts – one per race) would be ready for shipping by the middle of this year.
