Destiny is obviously the lifeblood of Bungie as a company, but the developer has other irons in the fire as well. At the recent PlayStation Showcase, it announced that it’d be bringing back the 1994 classic Marathon as PvP extraction shooter, and though Bungie has made it clear that it’s going to go dark on the game for a while until its closer to release, before that, the developer has released a behind-the-scenes ViDoc that offers more details on it.
Emergent, player-led stories in sandbox systems is always a core component of multiplayer experiences, extraction shooters in particular, and that’s something that Bungie is emphasizing quite a bit with extraction.
The developer also mentions systems and mechanics such as build variety and player progression, while also offering new details on the game’s setting, its visual style, and some rather intriguing meta-progression mechanics, like players being able to discover artifacts that can in turn be used to unlock new maps for the entire community. Check out the ViDoc below for more details.
Marathon is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
