Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is Set in Paris, Black Panther Played by Khary Payton

The narrative-driven action-adventure title is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Uncharted creator Amy Hennig’s Skydance New Media has officially unveiled Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, a single-player action-adventure game set during the Second World War that will see players stepping into the shoes of Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of that Era, and above all else, the game’s visual fidelity has turned more than a few heads. During the recent State of Unreal presentation at GDC, Hennig offered further details on the game, including how Unreal Engine is aiding its development.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.4, and is also making use of MetaHuman technology, enabling photorealistic faces and highly detailed performance capture. Hennig also talked about how the engine’s Nanita and Lumen technologies are being used to aim for more detailed environments. Check out the full showing below, courtesy of IGN.

Meanwhile, Marvel has also revealed additional details on the game. Set in 1943’s Occupied Paris, Rise of Hydra will see Khary Payton (best known for his role as Ezekiel in The Walking Dead) playing the role of Azzuri, aka the Black Panther, while Drew Moerlein will play Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

The two will be joined in the main cast of playable characters by American soldier and Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones, who’s played by Marque Richardson, and Wakandan spy Nanali, played by Megalyn Echikunwoke. Other key characters in the story are Howard Stark, played by Joel Johnstone, and French Resistance member Julie, played by Lyne Renée.

Meanwhile, the game’s music is being composed by Stephen Barton (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor).

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is due out in 2025.
