Mass Effect: Andromeda was a step back for BioWare’s beloved RPG franchise, with its mixed critical reception and disappointing sales resulting in EA pumping the brakes on the series. Andromeda’s DLC was cancelled, and the series itself was temporarily put on ice- but BioWare has since made it clear that Mass Effect still has future.
The studio has talked about its eventual return few times now, and they’ve got ideas kicking around for where they might take the series in the future. Recently, on N7 Day, BioWare general manager and Mass Effect creator Casey Hudson took to Twitter to share as-of-yet unseen and unused Mass Effect concept art, saying that BioWare has “so many ideas for things we want to do in Mass Effect” and that the series still has “so many stories yet to tell.”
It’ll probably be a long time before we see another Mass Effect game, with BioWare currently focusing on Dragon Age 4. The fantasy RPG is currently in pre-production, and though it won’t be out until at least 2022, BioWare might be gearing up to share some news on it soon.
