Media Create Hardware Sales: 3DS XL and Vita Sales are Neck to Neck

The PlayStation Vita sold only 2000 units less than the 3DS XL this week in Japan.

Thanks to the release of Toukiden this week, the PlayStation Vita managed to beat out the Nintendo 3DS for the first time in…well, ever for software sales positions (the latter only Etrian Odyssey Untold: Millennium Girl release this week that made it to the top five).

However, in terms of hardware sales, the 3DS XL is still very much on top in the Japan according to Media Create Sales charts courtesy of Gematsu. But the PlayStation Vita still managed to provide stiff competition.

The Nintendo 3DS XL sold 33,272 units this week in comparison to 28,281 units the week before, while the Vita sold 31,271 units this week, up from 13,422 units the week prior. The 3DS is in third position with 17,440 units sold this week, while the PlayStation 3 is in fourth with 12,554 units sold. The Wii U is currently in fifth place with 7,060 units sold.

While each console in the top five saw an increase from the previous week’s sales, it was only the Vita that saw a roughly 250 percent increase. Let’s see how next week pans out though.
