Nintendo’s 3DS XL has been seeing nothing but strong numbers in Japan. However, perhaps due to the lack of any high profile releases for the platform, it only sold 33,351 units in the week ending on May 12th in comparison to the previous week’s 50,190 units according to the latest sales charts from Media Create.
The 3DS also saw a drop, though not as significant, with 16,412 units sold this week against 26,273 from the week before. The PlayStation Vita has suffered much more, as it now stands behind the PS3 (12,793 units sold this week) with only 12,331 units shipped. This is in comparison to the previous week’s 22,051.
Considering the number of high profile releases including Muramasa Rebirth and Soul Sacrifice, this can’t be good news. Then again, Nintendo has built a steady backlog of titles with the 3DS instead of getting by on one or two big titles released every now and then.
It only did better than the Wii U, which sold 7,974 units this week.
