Megabonk Sells 1 Million Units in Two Weeks

The surprise indie hit will receive a "roadmap" at some point, but for now, creator vedinad is "overwhelmed and tired at the moment."

Even while the launch of Ghost of Yōtei commands attention, a rather unusual indie title, vedinad’s Megabonk, celebrates its one million milestone. According to the developer on Twitter, it reached this sales total after two weeks on PC via Steam.

Available on PC, Megabonk combines Vampire Survivors and Risk of Rain 2 with a low-poly aesthetic. Players can choose from multiple playable characters with humorous bents (a skeleton on a skateboard, for example) and complete stages against hordes of enemies while gathering power-ups. There are currently two stages available, each with three tiers of difficulty.

Despite the obvious influences, Megabonk is rated highly on Steam. About 94 percent of the currently 15,046 user reviews gave it a thumbs-up, resulting in a “Very Positive” rating. Its player numbers are also steadily growing, reaching a new peak concurrent record of 88,581 in the past 24 hours.

While vedinad is currently “a bit overwhelmed and tired,” they confirmed there are “definitely a lot of things I wanna fix and change.” Some sort of roadmap will be revealed in the future, so stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
