As Metal Gear Survive gets closer to its release date, the game’s producer Yuji Korekado has clarified some important question fans have had about the game. In an interview that was given to the Official PlayStation Magazine (Issue 145, February 2018, via WccfTech), Korekado-san expressed his regret for having caused confusion among the fans regarding the relationship between the Metal Gear Survive and the Metal Gear series as a whole.
He stated, “Fans and gamers in general seemed to take Metal Gear Survive to be a continuation of the Metal Gear series, so I regret that we caused that confusion.” By all means then, the game may be best described as a spin-off and nothing more. Korekado-san also spoke about what role microtransactions may play in the game. After recent controversies, many players may be wary of loot boxes and unfair systems in a multiplayer game such as this one. However, Korekado-san has stated that microtransactions will only be used to buy “things like the accessories in Metal Gear Online, and Forward Operating Base in MGSV: The Phantom Pain.” He also confirmed there are no pay to win mechanics and no loot boxes in the game.
Finally, Korekado-san spoke about the single-player campaign and exploration and it seems like there will be a lot to do for players in the game’s world. He stated, “In the early part of the game, you have a small range that’s centered around the base camp, but as you make your way through the game the area you can explore gradually gets bigger and bigger. And as the area you can explore gets bigger, missions that advance the story appear, as do sub-quests.”
The game is set to release for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on February 20 in North America, February 21 in Japan and on February 22 in Europe.
