When it first launched for the GameCube over two decades ago, Nintendo and Retro Studios’ Metroid Prime was instantly lauded by one and all as an unabashed masterpiece, and in the time since then, it has gone down in the medium’s history books as one of the greatest games ever made. It’s no surprise, given its timeless nature, that it continues to have that sort of an impact even now.
Metroid Prime Remastered saw a surprise announcement and release on the same day roughly month ago, and has been met with widespread praise from critics (it currently sits at a 95 rating on both Metacritic and OpenCritic) and audiences alike since then, with praise being reserved not only for how gorgeous it looks, but also how incredibly designed the game remains so many years on from its initial launch. To highlight some of that praise, Nintendo has released a new accolades trailer- check it out below.
In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Metroid Prime Remastered, just by existing in the form it does, becomes one of the best looking, playing, and just best in general, games of this year, of the Switch, and of the generation in general. You must try it, whether it will be your first time (win which case you are in for a treat) or your umpteenth replay.” Read the full review through here.
Recent reports have claimed that Nintendo is also planning on bringing Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to the Nintendo Switch, though not with the kind of significant overhauls and upgrades that their precursor has seen on the platform.
Meanwhile, if you have a hankering for more Metroid games on the Switch, Game Boy Advance classic Metroid Fusion is coming to Nintendo Switch Online next week.
