Nintendo has announced Metroid Prime Remastered, which is out today on the Nintendo Switch eShop. The remastered version of Metroid Prime doesn’t feature any new content. It does, however, feature remastered visuals and various control options depending on player preferences. A physical release of the game is slated for February 22.

The announcement comes after persistent recent rumours that Nintendo would unveil Metroid Prime Remastered soon. While Nintendo itself hasn’t made any announcement regarding the potential for remastered releases of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the fact that Metroid Prime 4 is still under development might eventually lead to the entire trilogy making its way to the Nintendo Switch at some point.

The original Metroid Prime was released on GameCube back in 2002. Despite featuring a first-person perspective for the first time in the Metroid franchise, the core gameplay of Metroid Prime is quite similar to 2D games in the franchise.

The development of Metroid Prime 4 in the mean time seems to have been quite tumultuous, with developer Retro Studios having rebooted development of the game four years ago.
