Microsoft Courting Sony TV and CBS Executives for Xbox One

Games still being shown at E3 2013 (maybe. Hopefully).

Microsoft is super-serious about pushing the Xbox One as an entertainment device (as opposed to, you know, just games which it is obviously bursting at the seams with). So serious, in fact, that according to an insider speaking to Deadline, CEO Steve Ballmer and entertainment studios president Nancy Tellem have gone Hollywood in order to woo executives.

These visits were in order “to reiterate Microsoft’s commitment to transitioning its business to devices and services and to explaining that Hollywood entertainment is a big part of that. Microsoft in the past has just dipped a toe but now has a real commitment.”

The duo have apparently met CBS boss Les Moonves, Sony TV head Steve Mosko, and WME co-CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell, with Balmer stating that he doesn’t want the Xbox One “to be a cable channel.” The capabilities of the machine in the realm of sports, reality TV and more – as seen at the recent Xbox Reveal – were apparently emphasized at the meeting.

Meanwhile, for games, tune in to Microsoft’s E3 press conference, which will happen on June 10th at 12:30 PM/ET 9:30 AM PT/5:30 PM BST.
