Microsoft Exec On Xbox Scorpio: ‘We Are Making It Easier For Devs To Take Advantage of The Power’

"We are spending as much time and energy on our dev tools as we are on anything customer-facing."

The Xbox One Scorpio is going to be, to use Microsoft’s own parlance here, a ‘beast’ of a console. And based on what has been announced for it so far, we can believe it, instead of just dismissing it as empty hype, as is usually the case. The console, which will have a 6 TFLOPs GPU, promises to be the most powerful console ever made.

But are Microsoft sure that third party developers will actually be able to utilize all that extra power? Will third parties even bother, given the tens of millions of PS4 and Xbox One units that will already be out there on the market? Even the PlayStation 4 Pro will have a sizable lead over the Scorpio by then, given its likely to be year long headstart.

“The developers have to go through a transition, just like customers,” Microsoft’s Albert Penello said in an interview with The Guardian. “We are spending as much time and energy on our dev tools as we are on anything customer-facing. Making it easier for developers to take advantage of the power, making it easier for developers who are working on an Xbox One game to get a great Scorpio game and vice versa – we’re developing those tools now.”

Hopefully, Microsoft are able to get developers to fully leverage all the resources that the Xbox One Scorpio offers- it would be a shame if all of that power went to waste otherwise. It’ll be interesting to see just how developers respond to the Scorpio, which is a far more radical upgrade to the Xbox One than the PS4 Pro promises to be to the PS4- hopefully, that power is utilized to deliver the most advanced games on the market, and is not just ignored.
