Microsoft Explains That Their Key Metric For Success Is Engagement And Not Console Sales

The company has explained why they haven't been revealing the sales figures for their console.

Between many fans of the PS4 and Xbox One, there exists an intense rivalry. One of the ways in which people usually assess the competition is by pointing out sales numbers. While we know that the PS4 has continued to sell exceptionally well with almost 80 million units sold, Microsoft hasn’t been revealing sales figures for their consoles for quite a while now and they finally explained why in a comment given to Variety.

A spokesperson had stated, “We are continuing to look at engagement as our key metric for success and are no longer reporting on total console sales.” The company’s revenue has been increasing and their Xbox Live users is now at 59 million, which is significantly more than the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers of which there are 32 million.

We’ll have to wait and see what the company’s approach will be with the next generation of consoles. What do you think of the company’s statement on their metric of success? Let us know in the comments.
