Microsoft Files “Xbox Series” Trademark

More fuel to add to the Lockhart fires.

Speculation and leaks of an allegedly cheaper variant of the next-gen Xbox – reportedly codenamed Lockhart – have been rampant for over a year now, and more evidence may have emerged that might point to its existence.

As spotted by Generacion Xbox, Microsoft have filed new trademark for “Xbox Series”. Yep, no X. Xbox Series X itself has a separate trademark. While this doesn’t confirm anything by any means, it does lead credence to the popular belief that the Xbox Series X is going to be one of multiple SKUs for the next-gen Xbox, which will collectively fall under the Xbox Series banner. The rumoured Lockhart might be on of those consoles.

Questions about when Microsoft will reveal the Lockhart, or whatever they end up finally calling it (if it’s real, that is, which it probably is) have been asked more than a few times- and it’s likely that an announcement is not far away. Recently, reports emerged that Microsoft had plans to unveil the Lockhart earlier this month, before delaying those plans to August. Read more on that through here.
