Middle-Earth: Shadow of War New Trailer Casts Shelob in A New Light

Taking more liberties with Tolkien's lore...

Okay, I’m a hardcore Lord of the Rings fan. I was able to, however, put aside a lot of my misgivings with how Shadow of Mordor approached Tolkien’s lore and text, and enjoy it for what it was- a reasonably decent action game in Lord of the Rings garb. However, Shadow of War seems to be taking it a bit too far, and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it.

Take this newest trailer for Shadow of War, for instance- it takes Shelob, the terrifying and monstrous giant spider who nearly threw all the best laid plans off in Lord of the Rings, and turns her into a… femme fatale? What is this? Is this more catering to the masses?

I don’t like it. You may call it nerd rage, but I’m not on board with this. That said, yo may feel differently- you can check out the trailer for the game for yourself below, and see what you think. Shadow of War is due out on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 10.
