Rumors have begun to fly over the last few days that SNES games may be coming to Nintendo Switch, via their Nintendo Switch Online service. Until now, Nintendo has offered slate of 2-3 NES games, enhanced with online play and other modern perks, every month. However, NES games are in some cases over 30 years old, and don’t necessarily hold up that well—particularly next to 16-bit classics, which have held up over the years.
All of which is to say, the service could become far more appealing with the addition of SNES games than it is right now. Which is why these unearthings of SNES games headed to it are so exciting. And now, if you wanted more validation that this might be happening, we have it.
Hackers have unearthed further data about SNES games on the NES app for the Nintendo Switch—specifically, descriptions for some of the SNES games that were discovered a few days ago, quite a few of them in full English. This seems to indicate not just that the games are coming to the service, but that they may be coming soon.
Right now, they have not been officially confirmed, but there’s way too much smoke now for there to be no fire. Hopefully, this is one of the announcements that is made in the next Nintendo Direct.
