Dataminer Discovers SNES Games In Nintendo Switch Online Library

Is Nintendo going to add more than just NES games to the service soon?

Nintendo launched Nintendo Switch Online earlier last year, making the switch to a paid online service in vein of PSN and Xbox Live- the issue is that Nintendo doesn’t know how to do online well, which is evidenced not only by the way major online titles such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate falter in that area, but also how the subscription itself doesn’t seem to provide much that seems to be worth the price of entry. Sure, we get access to a growing library of free NES games every month, but many feel – and rightly so – that that’s simply not enough.

Demand for SNES games to also be included in said lineup, at the very least, has been pretty high- and as per what a dataminer has uncovered in the digital library of the Nintendo Switch Online service (via Nintendo Life), Nintendo might be planning on giving in to those demands pretty soon. Going by the handle @KapuccinoHeck on Twitter, the dataminer has gone through Switch Online’s strings to discover a library of SNES games’ files in the database which seem to have been added after the last system update for the Switch, suggesting that Nintendo might be gearing up to add said games to the lineup soon.

The dataminer has discovered a lineup of 22 games, which includes several notable titles as well, which are bound to get a ton of people very excited, including the likes of Super Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and Star Fox 2, in addition to other darlings like Contra 3, Breath of Fire 2, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.

Given the fact that demand for more incentive to subscribe to Nintendo’s paid online service has been pretty high, and that Nintendo has said that it’s looking into ways to improve its service, it’s likely that this ends up coming to fruition- but don’t take it as gospel until such time there’s confirmation from Nintendo, of course.
