Need for Speed Unbound Gameplay Showcases Driving Effects, Which Can be Turned Off

Players can equip a variety of Tags, from colored smoke trails to impressive Boost effects, when the racing title launches on December 2nd.

Instead of extensive new gameplay, Criterion Games has uploaded a short clip for Need for Speed Unbound, showcasing the new Driving Effects. These are graffiti effects that occur when boosting, jumping, and more, resulting in an explosion of pretty colors. Check them out in the tweet below.

Effects can also apply to the car’s exhaust, leaving behind incredibly attractive smoke trails. It also seems these Effects will be of different rarities, with the “DJ” Tag indicated as Common. Of course, those who aren’t fans of the new style and want everything off can opt to do so. As the developer noted in a follow-up tweet, “You can choose to never put them on in the first place. Just like any other part of a car.”

Need for Speed Unbound is out on December 2nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, retailing for $70. It will have over 140 cars at launch with extensive customization. Post-launch, players can look forward to free content updates, though further details have yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned in the meantime for more gameplay.
