It’s been three years since Gran Turismo Sport, and seven years since the last numbered entry in the series came out, and the demand for a new mainline entry in the racing sim franchise is growing day by day. And with the PS5 launching later this year, many are wondering whether Sony will choose to launch Gran Turismo 7 – or whatever the next game is called – for the console at launch, or within a few months of its launch.
While there’s not a lot of evidence to suggest that, Sony did recently file new trademarks for the series in Argentina, as spotted by a user on Reddit. A new trademark simply for Gran Turismo has been filed- it’s worth noting that if the new GT is new numbered entry, the number won’t necessarily need a trademark. Meanwhile, logos for both Gran Turismo and developers Polyphony Digital have also been filed. Interestingly, all of them were filed on June 4, which was supposed to be when the PS5 games showcase was supposed to be streamed before it got delayed.
Of course, trademark filings don’t necessarily have to mean that a new announcement is coming, so don’t immediately connect those dots- but it’s certainly possible that that is the case, especially given the time that’s passed since the last GT release, and since Sony might conceivably want the next one to be an early PS5 game. Of course, most of that is based on assumptions, so don’t get your hopes up too high just yet.
