New PS5 Update Released, Improves System Performance

The latest update improves PS5's performance at a system level, but there's no word of any other improvements in the update notes.

Sony has recently released an update for PlayStation 5, which improves system performance. Clocking in at around 900 MB, the update bumps the version of the console up to 21.01-03.21.00.

This update comes after April’s PS5 update, which fixed number of issues, with the most glaring of them being disc spinning. It’s always possible that Sony might have released some fixes for obscure bugs as well, but there seems to be no mention of it within the patch notes. The PS5 system software has already become a lot better than its launch self, with a noticeably better management of cross-gen game versions and a much-requested ability to play games off of an external USB drive – albeit PS4 only.

PlayStation is holding its State of Play event later today, which will showcase a number of third-party announcements and reveals alongside a more in-depth look at Arkane’s upcoming Deathloop. Sadly, Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok won’t be part of the lineup.
