It’s been a year since NieR Automata launched, but it seems like at least one of its secrets hasn’t yet been discovered. Speaking to Famitsu (translation via Gematsu), NieR Automata producer Yosuke Saito, director Yoko Taro, Platinum Games designer Takahisa Taura, and illustrator Akihiko Yoshida all talked about the game, including what their hopes and expectations for it had been (they had wanted it to sell a million, but never expected sales of 2 million).
But the most intriguing thing to have come out of this interview is the revelation that there is one final secret to the game that has not yet been discovered. This secret will apparently be “unpleasant”, so the developers will not reveal it themselves, and will let it be discovered- but they confirmed that this secret was put into the game for very specific and deliberate reasons.
I wonder what this secret might be? I imagine owners of the PC version of the game will now be datamining it to try and figure out what it is that’s hidden in there. NieR Automata is available now on PS4 and PC.
