In NieR Automata, there is a junk item, that takes up inventory space and does absolutely nothing. In the initial version of the game, this was called NIN64. This apparently was a problem for a lot of people- a lot of people thought this was a reference to Nintendo’s N64 console, and they were not amused at it being implicitly referred to as ‘junk.’
While we cannot be sure whether or not that was intent of naming the item what it was named, it looks like Square Enix wanted to avoid any possible backlash, because Patch 1.02 for the game removes all references that could be construed as being towards Nintendo- NIN64 is now referred to by the more descriptive, but also more boring, ‘Broken Firearm.’
NieR Automata is out in Japan on the PS4. In the west, it launches on the PS4 and on PC next month. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more information.
