Later today, Nintendo will broadcast a Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, with announcements and updates confirmed for third party games coming to the Nintendo Switch. One of those games, it seems, will be a port of PlatinumGames and Square Enix’s acclaimed action RPG NieR: Automata.
That’s based on tweets that seem to be teasing the same by journalist Nacho Requena. Requena recently accurately leaked details on the Nintendo Direct presentation, and also said that the presentation would feature an announcement of a port for a game that has been available for about four years.
Interestingly, in a follow-up on Twitter, he clarified that the game has been available since 2017-2018, depending on which version you’re looking at. NieR: Automata first launched for PS4 and PC in 2017, with an Xbox One launch arriving in 2018.
On top of that, Raquena published another tweet about the Direct presentation, in which he also included a clip of NieR: Automata director and series creator Yoko Taro wearing an Emil mask, who is a character in the NieR games.
Back in 2018, NieR: Automata’s developers said that a Nintendo Switch version of the game wasn’t out of the question, but there has been no word on the same from either PlatinumGames or Square Enix beyond that. Either way, it seems like it won’t be long until we know for sure one way or another, so stay tuned for more updates.
