Nintendo Switch Has Sold 92.87 Million Units Worldwide

Sales for the Switch are down year-over-year from the previous fiscal period though, and Nintendo has lowered its projections for the coming months slightly.

As part of its recent quarterly fiscal briefing, Nintendo provided updated sales figures for the Switch and data from the quarter ending September 30. The Switch’s worldwide sales have now hit 92.87 million. That puts it within touching distance of the Wii’s lifetime sales, which currently stand at 101.63 million. The Switch’s sales are down year-over-year 34% as compared to the previous fiscal year, but it still managed to sell nearly 4 million units in the three month-period. At last count, its sales stood at 89.04 million units.

In the first half of the current fiscal year (April 2021-September 2021), Nintendo sold 8.28 million units of the Switch, 6.45 million of which were the base model, with the remaining 1.82 million being the Switch Lite. The handheld-only variant of the system, incidentally, has seen a steep decline in sales, with numbers for the first half of the fiscal year being down year-over-year by 56.3%.

Meanwhile, total software sales for the Switch in the first half of fiscal year 2021-22 currently stand at 93.89 million, which is down 6.3% from last year, though given the fact that there’s been nothing comparable to Animal Crossing: New Horizons this year, that’s understandable. Revenue from digital sales stands at 144.2 billion yen, accounting for 45.1% of all Switch software sales. While that number is down by 15.9% from last year, Nintendo says sales for digital-only games have only increased.

Finally, Nintendo also states that factors such as the global semiconductor shortage have caused it to revise its projections for sales for the current fiscal year. While previous Nintendo targeted 25 million units sold for the Switch in FY 2021-22, the modified forecast now stands at 24 million. That said, software sales projections for the fiscal year have been increased, from 190 million units to 200 million units.

Recently, Nintendo also provided updated sales figures for the ten best-selling first party Switch titles. Read more on that through here.
