Nintendo Using Nvidia Technology In Switch Was A ‘Top Priority’

Nintendo tech head, Genyo Takeda on why they wanted Nvidia on board with the Switch.

There has been some talk going around about how the Nintendo Switch simply isn’t as powerful as the PS4 and Xbox One and although that is never going to change, Nintendo has revealed a few more details about the tech of the new console. It’s already well known that Nintendo will be using Nvidia technology in its new console, due for release next month.

However according to a report on Nintendo Today, Nintendo tech head, Genyo Takeda has revealed that it was always a priority for them to use Nvidia GeForce tech in the new console. “The PC has been a major gaming device, especially outside of Japan, and my top priority in the development of the Nintendo Switch hardware was to bring NVIDIAʼs GeForce, which has played a key role in realizing high-performance graphics for PC gaming, to our hardware with low power consumption,” Takeda said during a recent earnings call with investors.

The console features a custom chip for the Switch based on the Tegra SoC. You read more about the machine’s specs here.
