While Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! incited a fair bit of controversy in the run up to their release, thanks to their radical shake up of the series’ long standing formula in favor of simplified game mechanics borrowed from the extremely popular mobile game Pokemon GO, the final result was pleasantly great. The game then went on to do well (which should never have been in doubt, it’s Pokemon).
In the long run, it sounds like both, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have been very happy with the game’s performance. Speaking with Business Insider, Niantic CEO John Hanke said that both companies are very happy with Pokemon Let’s Go (as well as Pokemon GO), and that going forward, would like the main Pokemon series to play off of Pokemon GO more (which hopefully means nothing more than letting players trade Pokemon across both).
He also noted that the developers at Niantic, cognizant of the game’s resurgence in popularity thanks to some steady and great support for it last year, will continue pushing updates for it at a steady pace in 2019 too, which should be good news for Pokemon fans.
For mainline Pokemon game fans, we still have Pokemon 8 to look forward to, which is confirmed to be coming to the Switch later this year.
