Nioh 2 Developer Wants to Create New IP for PS5

Studio head Yosuke Hayashi believes a "new console will bring new opportunities."

Team Ninja has its hands full currently with Nioh 2, a brutally difficult action RPG with new Yokai abilities, weapons and combat mechanics. And though the game will be supported past launch with three DLC packs, the development studio aspires to something different in the future. Essentially, it wants to create a new IP for the PlayStation 5.

Eurogamer Portugal asked studio head Yosuke Hayashi about the console and the latter responded, “I believe that a new console will bring new opportunities and we would like to create a new game, a new intellectual property for PlayStation 5.” Hayashi says this will mirror the approach taken with Nioh on the PS4.

“We created the Nioh series for PS4 and we would like to do the same for PS5.” Of course, this doesn’t mean that a new IP for PS5 is in the works at Team Ninja. Simply that Hayashi and his team would like to make one in the future. How far off that will be remains to be seen.

As for Nioh 2, it releases on March 13th for PS4. It will feature new co-op mechanics including support for up to three players and instanced loot along with new enemies and bosses. In terms of length, players can expect the same number of main missions as the first game. Check out some new gameplay here.
