Nobody Wants to Die is an Upcoming Noir-Inspired Cyberpunk Narrative Game, Out in 2024

The game, taking place in New York in the year 2329, puts players on the hunt of a serial killer targeting the city's elite.

Developer Critical Hit Games and publisher PLAION have unveiled a new narrative cyberpunk game, Nobody Wants to Die. The game, set for release in 2024, will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Check out the announcement trailer below, courtesy of IGN.

Nobody Wants to Die is set in New York City, in the year 2329. Technology in the world has advanced quite a bit, going as far as giving humans eternal life by having their consciousness to be stored in memory banks or transferred to a different body altogether, assuming the person can afford the subscription.

Players are put in the shoes of detective James Karra, who works in the Mortality Department. Karra is investigating a serial killer targeting the city’s richest and most elite citizens. Players will have to use Karra’s time manipulation abilities and technology to investigate crime scenes as they investigate clues to uncover the truth behind the murders.

The studio cites the noir genre as a major inspiration for Nobody Wants to Die, which would explain the game’s cyberpunk setting—one well regarded for its noir trappings. The game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5.
